Gift Baskets Corporate Gifts

The rules of no solicitation lose a little something where I work. It doesn’t take much for my boss to agree to see a salesperson – no more than a couple of corporate gift baskets, really. He proves that to us over and over. We can see him in his office enjoying office gift baskets given to him by one salesperson or another. Just yesterday, a traveling salesman came a calling, gift baskets for office staff in hand.

This one was different, though – way different. He had the usual corporate gift baskets with him. You need at least a few office gift baskets to get through the front door. During the holidays, even the employees have to be bearing gift baskets for office staff if we want to see the boss.

This traveling salesman looked familiar to me, though. I told one of my co-workers I knew I had seen him somewhere. I thought it might have been on television, but I wasn’t sure. “Maybe he sells corporate gift baskets,” she suggested. I didn’t think that was it, though. I do love office gift baskets, so I watch the commercials, but that didn’t feel right. The last one I watched was for gift baskets for employees working from home, and it starred a woman.

“Where do I know him from?” I said, exasperated because I couldn’t connect the dots. “Here, have some nuts from one of the corporate gift baskets I got from a client. They have the best office gift baskets. Anyway, the nuts are supposed to be good for memory.” I reached over and grabbed a handful for one of the gift baskets for office staff. “It is going to drive me crazy,” I whispered.

I looked over at the man again. I could see he was having an intense conversation with my boss. They were both huddled over one of the most unique corporate gift baskets I’d ever seen. I’m a big fan of corporate gift baskets for employees, so I’ve seen my share. This wasn’t a gift basket for group meetings, but more personal than that, almost like it was customized just for the boss.

Everyone in my row of cubicles was watching them talk. “Do you think he brought corporate gift baskets for employees? That would be nice for a change,” I heard one guy say from the end of the row. “Does anyone else think that this guy looks familiar?” I yelled out. No one answered. I missed lunch,“ one person answered.

They were frustrated because they didn’t get unique corporate gift baskets from the traveling salesman. I couldn’t care less about the custom gift boxes for employees. Right now, I couldn’t focus on anything but the man’s face, even if he was holding unique corporate gifts.

After a half-hour of watching the two men munch on the best luxury gift baskets and talk, the boss came bursting out of his office. “You’ll never believe what this guy can do?” “Is he selling those unique gift baskets, boss? You can put me down for four of them. They look like some of the best luxury gift baskets I’ve ever seen.”

“Yeah, yeah, you’ll get your corporate gift baskets for employees; just wait. He is more than just a traveling salesman carrying the best office gift baskets. The man is a psychic genius. It is uncanny. The unique corporate gift baskets he brought me are full of all my favorite things. How does he know? It is amazing!”

As I listened to the boss go on and on about corporate gift baskets for employees and gift basket ideas for business clients, I was starting to remember where I had seen this face. “He was on TV,” I said to no one in particular. “What do you mean he was on TV,” someone asked. “Was he selling the best luxury gift baskets?”

“No, no, forget about the unique gift baskets. Sure, they are great. He brought plenty of corporate gift baskets for employees. It is his psychic ability that is really remarkable. You all need to talk to him. Anyone that talks to him will get the best luxury gift baskets I can find.”

That sealed the deal for most of my co-workers. They could easily be bought with luxury corporate gift baskets. Me, I wasn’t so sure. I didn’t trust the guy. Of course, I wanted my luxury corporate gifts just like everyone else, but there was something about him I didn’t trust. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but it would take more than corporate gift baskets for employees to get me anywhere near him.

I sat in my cubicle watching him make the rounds, luxury gift baskets in hand. He talked to Jimmy and won him over right away. Jimmy was a conspiracy nut, though, so it wasn’t much of an accomplishment. He went from Jimmy to Sara Jameson. I was starting to cave.

Then he sat down with my friend in the next cubicle. She was a pushover when it could lead to corporate gift ideas. She loved them. She sat listening intently, eyeing the best custom gift baskets. Then I saw it happen. She reached into her purse to grab the list of unique corporate gifts she wanted to buy. With her purse gaping open, she turned her head towards her computer, and out came his phone. He waved it over her purse, and suddenly I knew where I had seen him. It wasn’t on TV; it was on a wanted poster in the Post Office. He was wanted for credit card fraud.

When he moved away, I tried to tell her what I saw. She didn’t believe me. “Look, if you don’t want gourmet gift baskets, fine, but don’t ruin it for the rest of us.” It was frustrating because I knew those gourmet gift baskets with wine were not free. I grabbed my own phone and followed him to another cubicle. He did it again, but this time. I got it on video. Not even the best gourmet gift baskets were worth this.

I followed him and his gourmet gift baskets as he went from person to person. Each time, he waited for a chance to use his phone and steal their credit card numbers. In a way, he was kind of a genius, bringing those gourmet gift baskets champagne, and other goodies to our office. If you are going to bring the best luxury gift baskets anywhere and commit fraud, this was the place. Even after I showed every single one of them a video of what this guy was doing, they didn’t believe me.

They were mesmerized by the best gourmet gift baskets they have seen. And, between you and me, not the brightest group. More than a few of them were a few crackers short of the best luxury gift baskets if you know what I mean. Give them a few unique gift baskets and gain access to their credit cards. It made perfect sense.

To make a long story short, my colleagues were hypnotized by the unique gift baskets and wouldn’t believe me. And then it happened – Sally saw it too. I saw her eyebrows furl as he reached for his phone. Steve from accounting was next. He actually dropped his gift baskets for employees and checked to see if he still had his wallet. “Hey, you," he yelled out. "Give me that phone and take back your wellness gift basket for employees.”

The guy tried to run, but there was no place to go. He dropped his briefcase and office supplies, our office supplies, spilled out. “Dude, that’s uncool,” the boss said. He grabbed the man by his arms, pushed him into his office, and then locked the door. “Hand out all those unique office gift baskets and then call the police.” People scrambled to get the gift baskets for employees, and it got pretty ugly. It didn’t matter, though. The police confiscated all the unique gift baskets when they got there. They are probably enjoying them right now.
