Miss Myrtle's Chocolate Chip Cookies was thoughtfully inspired by her only son, Maurice Tyson, who taught him all of the basics of cooking and baking for himself. She was raised in St.Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. When she was growing up, she learned to cook and bake for her siblings from scratch!
The local markets and farms on the island had all of the freshest imports of spices, nuts, and sugar right from the docks. Imports and exports from neighboring islands and overseas. The importance of that is essential to the goal of bringing authentic, small batched baked chocolate chip cookies. The inspiration for establishing the online chocolate chip cookie business came from a place of healing, too. The passing of Myrtle Joseph in 2001 was devastating and heartbreaking and Maurice wondered what would be the best way to show his love and devotion to the woman who had done so much. As a registered nurse in NYC, she helped treat patients in need for 35 years. So always gave back to those who needed help. It was then Maurice realized the strong emotional bond the cookies she baked for him were as a kid. You knew the moment you took the first bite, someone took the time to care. He started to bake them and sent them to family and friends and the response was amazing! The treats brought a conversation to families who went back to a moment in time when childhood memories were precious as gold. That's a major part of Miss Myrtle's legacy!
So let the delicious taste of Miss Myrtle's Chocolate Chip Cookies take you on that sentimental journey!
