So, I have a story to share with you. I have a client who has done just about as well as you can during the lockdown. After all, we have all had our issues, and we have had to work hard to overcome them. Of course, one of the main developments of the lockdown has been the development of Zoom. Before the lockdown, who had actually heard of Zoom? Now, when people say Zoom, they usually think about video conferencing software instead of “zooming in” on something!
Virtually all of us have committed a faux pas on video conferencing technology, and this particular client has not once been able to figure out how to turn off the potato filter on her Microsoft Teams account! I mean, seriously? It’s been over a year! She must know how to do this, right? I mean, surely, one of her kids must be messing with her! Now, she’s never been great with technology, and she can’t wait to get back to the office. While she’s telling us this story, she’s going on and on about this Mexican snack box she discovered recently. She’s in love with this Mexican snacks box and says it’s filled with some of the best Mexican snacks she’s ever had! She even said that a friend of hers from Mexico tried it and said they were authentic! She couldn't stop talking about this, and the potato filter in the background just made it that much better. She's convinced all of us that we have to try this Mexican box, saying that we will fall in love with the snacks as soon as we try it. All we want to do is get through the meeting, but she won't stop talking about this snack box she has!
Even though she’s had her issues with technology, she’s not a complainer. We definitely poke fun at her for the filter she still has on in the background, but she takes it all in stride. Of course, she does all of this while she goes back and forth between her healthy Mexican snacks and her Mexican candy assortment. She says that she even reaches for traditional Mexican snacks when she looks for her favorite Mexican snack box Amazon.
She does feel bad about holding up the meeting, and she offered to share some of her snacks with us the next time we return to the office. Honestly, we all think this is just more of her ploy to get back to the office as quickly as possible. She knows that we are aware of her struggles with technology, and even though she takes the jokes in stride, we know she is tired of it. Of course, aren't you all tired of videoconferencing? It's almost like we can smell the Mexican snacks coming through the video conferencing software! At this point, we all want to try them, and we asked her to share a link with us as well.
Well, we thought she had eventually figured out her video conferencing software; however, the next time she gets online, the potato filter is back again! Honestly, we feel like she is acting like a potato herself. What does this mean? I'm not really sure either. Have you ever heard someone described as a loaf of bread? Well, I'm deciding to describe her as a potato. It's happening right in front of our eyes, and it's like the filter is changing her.
Of course, she's going through this in more ways than one. For example, she starts eating some of her favorite Mexican chip brands, looking for a Mexican chips box. For example, she's even found Mexican chip churros, she says, “I’ve found lots of Mexican chips near me, and I’m super excited to try a different flavor every day!”
Honestly, it has been a lot to take in, and I'm still struggling to process everything that is happening to our boss. At first, we thought the potato filter was just a joke, but now she's really taking it a bit too far. She's turning into a potato herself.
The coronavirus pandemic has been serious for individuals, families, and small businesses all over the world. Even though it is not a laughing matter, it is still important to get our laughs in as a way to break the stress and tension. There's nothing funny about so many people getting sick and dying, but our boss turning into a potato during the past year has been pretty entertaining! It's very strange to think that I've been working for this company for more than a year and I have never met her in person.
At this point, I immediately associate her with a potato as soon as I see her name. I immediately think about Mexican snacks, Mexican snack recipes, and Mexican snacks and candy because of everything we've been through together. I had a birthday party for a friend recently, and I even purchased Mexican snacks for the party because I couldn't stop laughing about my boss with the potato filter! As bad as it sounds, I feel like it's a part of her identity now. I feel like I know her well enough that I wouldn't get fired for saying this, but I'm wondering if I could get away with saying it to her face the first time I see her in person!
Even though we make fun of her, will you all have a soft spot for her. Sorry about the pun, but I couldn't help it! Really, I feel like we've all bonded over this issue with our boss. Even though we haven't spent a lot of time together in person, we always have something in common, and that brings us together. We talked about popular Mexican snacks, Mexican snacks names, and some of the Mexican snacks fruit we’ve run into. There’s nothing like going to a Mexican snacks store and recognizing everything on the shelf thanks to our boss who can't figure out the filter! The only thing left is to practice my Spanish when I walk into the store!
I feel like everyone has an absurd story from the pandemic, but this one might be a bit over-the-top. It's difficult for me to explain to family members and friends who have not experienced this what it is like to get on a video conference with our boss every day. We've all tried to help her, but now we are wondering if she's doing this on purpose!
Sometimes, it's difficult to stop thinking about it. For example, I was telling everyone about this restaurant we went to (I know, we went to a physical restaurant, sue me), and I couldn't stop talking about their potato hash. For some reason, even that reminded me of my boss! I immediately started thinking about the Mexican food care package that my boss ordered through her Mexican snacks Amazon account. She was gushing about how amazing it was to purchase Mexican snacks online!
You know how you have that one friend who won't stop talking about something amazing? It's almost like they won’t stop talking about it until you try it? I feel like our boss has the same way. She keeps telling us about these things, and she decided that the best way to get us to join her in her endeavor was to send them to us directly. She talked about Mexican candy international shipping, and that was the instant I knew that we were all going to start getting these things on our front doorstep. Immediately, I knew that our workday was going to change forever. There was no going back after this interaction!
Now, this thing about Mexican snacks has become a running joke, and our boss has been sending us gifts through Amazon. The other day, I had a Mexican sweet box arrive on my front step! The Mexican food box was absolutely amazing, and I had a great time going through it. Of course, the instant I opened up the package I knew exactly who it was from. It is obvious that our boss has a soft spot for us as well!
Now that we know it's her, she's asking us what we would like in our custom Mexican candy box. As she looks for Mexican snacks and candy near me, she takes note of what we like. Then, she makes a point to include it in the next box we get.
Everyone has had their issues during the coronavirus pandemic, and it’s the little things that make things easier. It may not sound like a lot to get a snack box in the mail, but it is certainly made our day is easier. Now, I think the potato filter is on purpose, as our boss knows that it makes life easier if we have something to laugh about.
