Yolélé shares the bold, rich, and storied flavors and cuisines of West Africa. They are a purpose-driven company; they exist to create economic opportunities for smallholder farmers in West Africa’s Sahel Region, to support their regenerative, biodiverse, and climate-smart farming practices, and to share the vibrant flavors of West Africa with the world.
Yolélé was founded by Senegalese chef, cookbook author, and restaurateur Pierre Thiam. He had the vision to create a more drought-resilient and prosperous food system in West Africa and began by introducing the nutrient-dense ancient West African grain fonio to the world. Africa’s oldest cultivated grain is truly revolutionary: gluten-free, low Glycemic Index, and high in important amino acids and nutrients, it also is a lifesaver in regions where it grows. Its flavor is light and just a bit nutty— perfect for making light, crispy, crunchy fonio chips! The base of their chips is made from just fonio and cassava flour. Then they’re seasoned with the iconic herbs and spices of West Africa, including citrusy baobab, zesty moringa, and umamiful Dawa Dawa. The result? A craveable flavor explosion that keeps you coming back for more. Eat good, do good- West African Fonio Chips are here to help.
In the Fulani language, “Yolélé” is shouted out to get people on the dance floor and parties started... it means, “Let the good times roll!”
